Top-spin
at Gallery Nivå125 in Båstad, Sweden 2010.
In the exhibition “Top Spin” at Nivå 125 Gustaf Nordenskiöld shows a series of works in which the rotation and centrifugal force is a fundamental theme.
Turned, thrown, drilled and shooked items in stained porcelain and multi-glazed stoneware.
By capturing the ongoing movement in the manufacturing process and transforming it to the clay, he conveys power through to the finished objects. Gustaf leaves behind traces and remains from the process to show the history of its creation.
The works convey the ambivalence between cultivation and sculpture, while all objects have a distinct function such as candle holder, vase, fruit bowl, hook or lamp.
The result is highly functional pieces that exudes traces of ancient nature, uncertain origin and an ongoing process.
A rotation in the stillness.
